Addai And Henrique Named To All-NPSL Teams
Tue, Aug 8, 2017 1:40 pm

Boston City’s run to the 2017 National Premier Soccer League playoffs has been further recognized by two players winning All-NPSL honors.

Midfielder Isaac Nana Addai has been named to the All-NPSL Team for the second year in a row as one of only 11 players selected for the Best XI from among more than 2,500 playing in the NPSL nationally.  The Lions’ top scorer is the only player to be named to both the 2016 and 2017 All-NPSL teams, as voted on by league staff, media and supporters.

Boston City has now had a total of three players named to the All-NPSL First Team in the club’s two seasons of existence, an achievement matched only by Albion SC Pros of San Diego.  Defender Gabriel De Souza and midfielder Michael Bustamante were honored last year, while goalkeeper Vitor Scariot won second team honors.

Central defender Paulo Henrique was named to the All-NPSL Third Team, capping an outstanding first campaign with the Lions that saw him produce a string of consistent performances before injury curtailed his season at the end.  He still managed to total 792 minutes and captained the team in the absence of Ronaldo Vieira.

“Nana and Paulo deserve to be recognized after both having great a first season with us, but they will tell you that their teammates also deserve part of these awards” said Boston City coach Palhinha.  “We are determined to bring the best players we can to the club, to help reach our goals and be successful and Nana and Paulo are perfect examples of the high expectations we set.”

In 2016, Addai won both the NPSL Golden Ball and NPSL Golden Boot awards, scoring 18 goals in only 15 matches, and is again a contender for the 2017 player of the season award having scored 12 goals in 13 matches this campaign.  He signed for Boston City from the Rhode Island Reds during the offseason.

Addai found the net 12 times from midfield in the NPSL and led Boston City with 7 assists, attracting the interest of several clubs.  He joined Ferroviara of the Brazilian Campeonato Paulista first division on loan in July.  Addai won one NPSL National Player of the Week award, was twice named to the Football Manager NPSL Team of the Week and was selected to the NPSL Northeast Region Best XI.

Henrique, a former Santos and Atlético Goianese defender, was a member of the same 2009 Santos squad as Brazilian superstar Neymar, making several appearances in the Campeonato Brasileiro, Campeonato Paulista and Copa do Brazil, scoring one goal.  He also played alongside Brazil international and current Seville midfielder Ganso, while with Santos.
