#9Jhonata Batista

Jhonata started the 2017 in a blaze of goal-scoring form, finding the net in all three preseason matches and continuing that streak as he scored the first goal of the campaign in a 1-1 draw against New York Cosmos B.  He scored from open play and in the penalty shootout defeat of Western Mass Pioneers in the U.S. Open Cup and fired a hat trick in a 6-1 home win over Seacoast United Mariners.  The striker was also on target in the 2-1 cup loss to GPS Omens.

Injury claimed Jhonata’s season as he suffered a reoccurrence of the ankle problem that ended his 2016 campaign, chasing a loose ball after half an hour at home to Hartford City.  He totaled 509 minutes played, 7 goals scored and one assist.

In 2016, Jhonata earned a reputation for chasing every loose ball in the Lions’ cause and was a constant threat up front, scoring two goals and jointly leading the team with four assists.  He scored the winner in a 2-1 victory away to Seacoast United Mariners and scored the first goal in an historic 3-2 win away to the New York Cosmos B.  His season was cut short by a broken ankle, suffered in the opening minutes of a home win over the Mariners.

Jhonata played in junior football academies in his native Brazil and at college at Mount San Antonio. He played for Olympic United and Corinthians USA in California and for one season in the PDL.
