Lions Close Out 2019 Season With Two Home Matches In Revere

Boston City fans have two last opportunities to catch the Lions in action as they close out the 2019 National Premier Soccer League season at Harry Della Russo Stadium in Revere on June 30 and July 6. Tickets for both matches are available at www.BostonCityFC.com.

A rematch against rivals Kingston Stockade this coming Sunday at 6pm sees a visiting team riding an eleven-match unbeaten streak and targeting the playoffs against a Boston City side welcoming back several key players while keen to derail the New York club’s postseason hopes.

The Lions went down 3-0 in Kingston last week with the club’s main goal-getters absent through suspension and availability and those forwards are eligible to return this Sunday. Top scorer Jhonata Batista hopes to add to his four strikes, complemented by Rigoberto Jimenez and Hugo Bomfim, who has found the net on two of his last appearances. Also returning to the squad is defensive midfielder Jadson Leite, who has completed a six-match and six-month suspension on what will be the anniversary of him seeing red in Kingston a year ago.

The Stockade have never won in Boston, losing 2-0 on both prior visits, though the series between the rivals is tied at three wins each.

Last week, with several players playing out of position, the Lions did themselves proud against a Kingston side with NPSL playoff aspirations. Sandro van Kuijck replaced Jason Katz between the posts, with the keeper who has produced some fine stops in tough situations on the bench. Keith Dixon and Ralph Angrand formed a new central defensive partnership, while Samuel Deossa, Chris Gilbert and Jonathan Argueta – all midfielders by trade – occupied the forward roles. The Lions were missing all eight of their new signings who were unavailable.

On Saturday, July 6, the season curtain comes down with a home match at Harry Della Russo Stadium against bottom of the table New York Athletic Club, kickoff 7pm. The sides played out a 1-1 draw earlier in the season with Jhonata Batista finding the target.
