For the second straight season, Boston City FC II came up short in their bid to win promotion in the Bay State Soccer League.
The Lions needed to win away to main rival Al Zawraa but suffered a 5-0 defeat to the Worcester-based side who claimed the Division 3 North title in the process.
An unstoppable 25-yard finish and a goal following a defensive mistake put Boston City on the back foot and they trailed 2-0 at the interval. Despite promising spells of pressure, the home back four held firm and stole a goal on the break to make it 3-0 and ended the contest with a fourth strike following another defensive lapse.
Al Zawraa’s fifth goal came as the Lions continued to press having hit the woodwork and missed a penalty when Pablo Guimiares fired his spot kick over the cross bar.
Boston City FC II complete the 2019 BSSL season at home to Lynnfield Legends on Saturday, November 9, at Daly Field in Brighton, kickoff 5pm with a third place finish already assured.
