Lions Edge Inter Boston 5-4 To Remain On Top Of The Table

Boston City FC II returned to action on Saturday, intent on holding on to top spot in the Bay State Soccer League (BSSL) Division 3 North to keep the club’s promotion hopes on track and took all three points with a 5-4 win.

The young development squad won eight games and lost only once in the spring half of the season and kicked off the fall campaign away to tenth-placed Inter Boston FC (3-7-0) at Falzone Field in Waltham.  Several new faces joined the league-leading squad with some players unavailable due to college commitments.

BCFC II fell behind 2-0 early in the first half as defensive holes opened up through the middle, but pulled a goal back through Pablo Guimaraes, who made a brief first team appearance in the NPSL this year.  The Lions drew level when Daniel Kulbatzki, who has played in the lower leagues of the German Bundesliga, scored with an overhead kick.

Three minutes after halftime Kulbatzki headed the visitors in front then after Inter Boston leveled, the goals flowed as Magno Darocha and Wagner Guzinski hit the target for a 5-3 lead.  The hosts set up a nervy final few minutes but the Lions held on for victory to consolidate their lead at the top of the table.

The young Lions now boast a won 9, lost one record and have scored four or more goals in eight of ten matches played so far this campaign.
