One of the highlights of the 2018 Boston City FC season was undoubtedly the performances of goalkeeper Jake Wagmeister, who was named Player of the Year by the club’s supporters, the Ironsides Crew.
The New Jersey native will be back between the posts for the Lions in 2019, having signed on for the new campaign under new head coach Michael Bustamante, along with two keepers eager to displace him in goal, Jason Katz and Sandro van Kuijck.
Wagmesiter waited patiently for his chance, having joined Boston City FC at the start of the 2018 season, eventually starting in the fifth game and was then ever-present in the line-up. He is the only keeper out of nine in club history to record a shutout on his debut, as the Lions beat Hartford City 2-0 on June 9.
Jake played previously for New York Athletic Club in the NPSL having come through the New York Red Bulls Academy and the University of Connecticut.
Hailing from Middletown, Mass., Jason Katz has enjoyed success with GPS Omens in the Bay State Soccer League and has played locally with Trinity College, Real Boston Rams, Boston Victory and FC Boston Bolts.
Sandro van Kuijck was born in Nunspeet in the Netherlands, moved to Boston at the age of 15 and played for FC Blazers for four years. He plays college soccer at UMass Boston and is entering his senior year. Sandro has lived in Brazil and Panama where he played for Chepo FC.
