A Fans’ Guide To Hormel Stadium in Medford

Boston City FC switch home venues this week for the June 1 clash with the Brooklyn Italians and again on June 15, when the New York Cosmos come to town.  Both matches kick off at 7pm.  The 2,500-capacity Hormel Stadium, located at 90 Locust Street in Medford, will welcome the Lions for these two matches, while the visit of the Rhode Island Reds on June 9 (kickoff 6pm) will be at Harry Della Russo Stadium in Revere.

Where to sit / stand:
Seating will be reserved for the home Ironsides Crew supporters’ group to the far right of the stand after they enter, in an area similar to that at Harry Della Russo Stadium in Revere. Visiting fans from the Italians and Cosmos should head to the far-left area. General admission includes the remainder of the stand, along with standing areas around the venue.

Hormel Stadium underwent major renovations in 2012 to include the installation of a new state-of-the-art FieldTurf, and most recently upgraded the surrounding track as well as adding a solar powered scoreboard.

Hormel Stadium will become the third venue in the Greater Boston area to host Boston City FC matches, the others being Brother Gilbert Stadium in neighboring Malden (2016-2018) and of course Harry Della Russo Stadium in Revere. Boston City FC II matches in the Bay State Soccer League are played at Daly Field in Brighton.

Famous Medford residents, past or present, include NHLer Keith Tkachuk, current Boston Bruins assistant coach Joe Sacco, actress Jessica Biel, former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Olympic gold medalist Mary Carew, former Mass Attorney General Martha Coakley, aviator Amelia Earhart, Elizabeth Short – infamously known as the Black Dahlia – a couple of Nobel Prize winners, and Ironsides Crew stalwart Two Tone Tim Lambert.
