Young Lions Win Again To Close In At The Top Of The Table

Only goal difference keeps Boston City FC II off the top of the Bay State Soccer League Division 3 North table, despite the young Lions having scored five goals in each of their first two league matches.

With a 2-0-0 record, ten goals scored and four conceded, the team’s record is bettered in the division only by Worcester County, who have scored a goal fewer but conceded only twice. The two sides meet on May 18 but will have played three more league matches by then.

Four goals from striker Jhonata Batista propelled Boston City’s development squad to a 5-3 win away to Lynnfield Legends in the opening BSSL match of the season. Rodrigo Freitas was also on target and scored again in week two as BRFC Druids were beaten 5-1 on the road.

Iraq youth international Reko Wesad Al-Saadi found the net twice in that win, while Haitian midfielder Wendy Bigor and Santi Cardona, who saw time with the Boston City first team last season, completed the rout.

In McKenzie Cup action, the Lions upset second division Mystic River 2-1 as Batista and Mateus Araujo scored in a come from behind win. The second round on April 27 sees a trip to Alleghany FC, who beat Boston City FC II to promotion last season as the third division champions.

The Lions play at home at Daly Field in Brighton for the first time this Saturday, April 20, with BSSL newcomers Gulls FC the opponents.
