It’s win and you’re in time for either Boston City FC II or Al Zawraa as the Bay State Soccer League Season plays out a promotion race decider on Saturday.
The sides meet for the first time ever at Klingle Field in Paxton, near Worcester at 3.45pm, and only a win will keep Boston City II’s promotion hopes alive, while the hosts need a draw or victory to eliminate the Lions from contention.
Worcester County sit on top of the BSSL Division 3 North table having played their full complement of 18 matches this season, two points ahead of Al Zawraa, who will pip them to the title with a win over the Lions. A Boston City II win will pull them to within two points of Al Zawraa with a game in hand to be played against eighth placed Lynnfield Legends at home next weekend.
The eventual champions will be promoted to the BSSL Division 2, while the runners up enter a two-stage playoff competition to claim the remaining spot. The Lions’ promotion hopes rest simply with a win over Al Zawraa this Saturday.
Boston City II led the D3N table for much of the season, but suffered two defeats and a draw early in the fall campaign to relinquish top spot. Wins of 9-1 and 6-3, with Riad El Moukhtari leading the scoring, and a 3-0 forfeit have set up this weekend’s decider.
